City Council consists of six council members and one mayor. The council members serve staggered terms. Voters elect three council members and a mayor at each odd-year General Election. Candidates elected to city council serve a four-year term, and the mayor is elected for a two year term.
Grosse Pointe Farms Foundation
Incorporated in May of 1980, the mission of the Foundation is to enhance the quality of life in Grosse Pointe Farms by helping to provide extra amenities which make our City so attractive to our residents and vistitors. The Foundation raises funds for improvements which are outside the scope of the normal City budget, serving as a catalsty for funding special needs of the Community. Past projects include: outdoor ice rink and warming building at Pier Park, Ornamental street signs throughout the City, installation fo brick pavers in the Hill Bussiness District and the Kerby Field house.
Beautification Advisory Commission
The purpose of the Beautification Advisory Commission is to initiate promote and coordinate beautification efforts in the City. The Commission advises city leaders on projects that enhance the ambience of the community, installs Spring plantings in the city's public areas, consults on environmentally smart planting methods, coordinates the annual Beautification Awards program, and on occasion, undertakes specific beautification projects.
The Retirement Board is an independent board that serves as the fiduciary of retirement system's assets. The City and member contributions are received and the benefits are paid directly out of the Retirement System's provisions. The General Employee and Public Safety Retirement Commission boards each consist of two City Council representatives, two employees and a Citizen member.
The Communication Committee assists administration in creating and implementing venues for transparency in government. This committee is active in the newsletter, website, social media, and any other avenue available to spread the news of Grosse Pointe Farms.
Parks & Harbor Committee
Parks & Harbor Committee is committed to provide you and your family with enjoyable experiences through a wide range of programs, special events, and quality park facilities. The Committee reviews park policy and makes recommendations for City Council approval.
Parking & Traffic Committee
This committee reviews everything from parking tied to development to adding or removing signs/signals. The committee review safety standards and best practices to make determination on parking and traffic.
Budget & Audit Committee
This committee is made up of three appointed members of City Council, the Controller, City Manager and Assistant City Manager. The Committee also meets on a regular basis with an independent auditor to continually evaluate the City's financial condition.
