Tax Bill Due Dates

July Tax Bill
Your July tax bill is due and payable from July 1st through September 15th without penalty. If unpaid by the September due date, 1% interest is added to the amount due on the next business day, and an additional 1% interest is added on the 1st of each month thereafter that the tax remains unpaid. (If September 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, the due date is extended to the next business day.)

After February 28th (leap year, 29th), all delinquent real property taxes must be paid directly to the Wayne County Treasurer with additional interest and penalties.  These taxes can no longer be accepted by the City.  (If February 28th or 29th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, the due date is extended to the next business day.)

Postmarks
Please Note: POSTMARKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AS PROOF OF DATE PAID

Payments by mail will be recorded on the date RECEIVED by the City, NOT the date postmarked.  Payments must be physically received by the Treasurer on or before the due date to avoid penalty.

Returned Checks and Payments Originated DIRECTLY FROM YOUR BANK
Checks (including electronic checks) accepted only as a conditional payment.  If not honored by the bank, tax is unpaid and subject to unpaid tax penalties.

*Important note about initiating online banking DIRECTLY FROM YOUR BANK:  Most banks use a third party to process checks requested through their online bill payment system.  This means that bills paid through your bank's online system may take up to 15 business days for us to receive.  To ensure payments are received on time, please set payment date at least 15 days prior to due date.

However, online payments made using the City's website are accepted as conditional payment on the date submitted.  There is no fee when you use this service to pay by eCheck from your checking or savings account.

**By City Charter, the Treasurer cannot waive penalties or interest for any reason.**
